BIOGRAPHY
Georges Le Chevallier had his first major solo exhibition twenty-five years ago. Since then his paintings have been exhibited extensively nationally and internationally in distinguished galleries and museums such as: The Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia, Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art in Greensboro, Gallery of Art and Design at NC State University in Raleigh, Central EU Gallery in Budapest, Exit Art and El Taller Boricua Gallery in New York City, The Williamson Gallery at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, El Museo de las Americas and Ateneo Puertorriqueno in San Juan, Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art in Japan, The New Mexico Art League Gallery in Albuquerque, The University Art Museum at California State University in Long Beach, and El Centro Cultural de Lavapies in Madrid. Le Chevallier has also created site specific public art installations in the USA, Mexico, Hungary, Tanzania, France, Guatemala, and Chile.

The youngest son of a French father and Puerto Rican mother, Georges Patrick Le Chevallier Marrero was born in Paris, France, on February 8, 1966. Shortly after, his family moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he grew up speaking Spanish. His ties with Europe were maintained by spending summers with his father’s family in France.

At the age of thirteen, Le Chevallier’s family moved to Los Angeles, California, where he added a third language and culture to his repertoire and discovered his fascination towards art. After attending El Segundo High School, he earned his Associate of Arts degree in Fine Arts from El Camino Community College in Torrance, California.

In 1987, Le Chevallier traveled to Spain, where he studied painting at the prestigious “Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando” in Madrid. ( Francisco Goya was once one of the academy’s directors, and its alumni include Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Oscar de la Renta, and Fernando Botero ) While at the Academia de Bellas Artes, Le Chevallier was a pupil of celebrated Spanish landscape painter Jose Sanchez Carralero.

In 1990 he received his BFA degree in Drawing and Painting from California State University in Long Beach, where he studied under Native American Pop Artist Richard Glazer-Danay, Figurative painter Domenic Cretara, and New York Feminist Artist May Stevens. During this time, he apprenticed under legendary Los Angeles muralist Elliott Pinkney by creating site specific murals throughout Long Beach and Los Angeles County.

In the summer of 1992 Le Chevallier moved to New York City. Two years later he had his first New York solo exhibition at Denise Bibro Gallery in Soho.

In 1995 he graduated from Hunter College of the City University of New York where he earned his Masters of Fine Arts degree in Painting, studying under such acclaimed artists as Minimalist sculptor Robert Morris, Abstract painter Joanna Pousete-Dart, Geometric Abstract painter Robert Swain, Nuyorican political artist Juan Sanchez, Gestural Abstract painter George Hofmann, Pattern and Decoration artist Valerie Jaudon, and Political Painter and Printmaker Susan Crile

Fellow Graduate students from Hunter College include Whitney Museum of American Art’s Bucksbaum Award winner Paul Pfeiffer, MICA’s Hoffberger School of Painting Director Joan Waltemath, and Puerto Rican Representational Painter Enoc Perez.

Apart from receiving many illustrious honors and recognitions during his search for artistic excellence, Le Chevallier has over 10 years of bi-lingual teaching experience at different museum educational departments, correctional facilities, and at the elementary, high school, and university levels. He has taught at UNC Pembroke, Vance Granville Community College, The Federal Prison in Butner, The Art Institute, Lehman College in New York City and currently is a Professor at The Living Arts College in Raleigh, where he was presented with the LAC Outstanding Faculty Member Award in 2007. Because of his multi-ethnic background and countless travel experiences he is fluent in the French, Spanish, Italian, and English languages.
